Marin Pirates Masters Coaches

Team Founder

Warren Lager has been Head Coach of the Marin Pirates Senior Team for 30 years. His swimmers include Olympic Trial qualifiers, Junior National and National champions, and several All-Americans. Warren founded the Marin Pirates Masters swim team with Cokie Lepinski who served as Head Coach from the team’s beginnings (July 13, 2009) through the end of 2011.

Head Coach

Jeremy Engman began coaching in 1997 in an offseason winter clinic with MSL’s Scott Valley Swim Team, a job which led him into coaching the MSL Seals for two seasons from 1998-2000. Jeremy was recently named the head girl’s coach at Tamalpais High School. He is a past MSL swimmer and has been competing since the age of five. Participating in the Marin Swim League he was a 5 time team MVP, and 2 time coach’s award winner. Jeremy had 8 top three Championships and All-star finishes and participated in the SVST 5 time record breaking free and medley relay team. He was also the 2005 SVST Swimmer of the Year. Growing up in Mill Valley, Jeremy returned to Northern California as the MSL Seals 2010 season Team Trainer after working abroad for the past six years in the Dominican Republic with his wife. Jeremy has a BA in Ethnic Studies from the University of Colorado. He also graduated from the World School of Massage and Holistic Healing in 2004 and studied selective alternative healing methods at Emperors College of Oriental Medicine in Southern California. Jeremy took selected studies in Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and a balanced introduction to fundamental oriental medicine and energetic healing. Jeremy lives in Mill Valley with his wife Marcialeny. Assistant Coach

Mehrad Zarrehparvar has been a part of the Pirate family since 1992, first as a swimmer and later as a coach at the Kentfield program.  He has over 10 years of combined coaching experience with teams in the Marin Swim League and USA Swimming, including 7 years with the Strawberry Seals and 5 years with the Marin Pirates.  He holds a BA in History from San Francisco StateUniversity and a MBA from Rutgers Business School .
